Palawan – The Last Ecological Frontier
There Is A Lot More To Palawan Than Just The Underground River…

Palawan is located between Mindoro island and Sabah in North Borneo. Covering an area of 1.5 million hectares, Palawan is the largest province in the Philippines with extensive unspoiled rainforests and many magnificent white sandy beaches untouched by development.
Palawan is one of the last ecological frontiers in Asia and boasts some of the most pristine protected habitats in the Philippines with large tracts of tropical rainforest and extensive marine wilderness.
Palawan is of course home to the Palawan Monkeys, Palawan Parrots, Palawan Bear Cats and Palawan Peacock as well as the Mongoose, Scaly Anteaters, Porcupines, and Mouse Deer. There are some 323 unique species of Wild Life in Palawan giving the Province the title “HAVEN OF PHILIPPINE WILDLIFE”.
The northern Calamianes Island is home to the Calauit Wildlife Sanctuary with exotic and endemic species of animals that roam freely in its lush hills and plains. Along the northern coastline is the El Nido Marine Reserve, renowned for its sea life, birds and limestone cliffs. The Sulu Sea has the Tubbataha reefs which are a pair of coral atolls known for a highly diverse collection of fishes and other marine life. There is also Ursula Island in the south which is a haven for migratory and resident birds.

The sight of thick canopies of trees carpeting mountain ranges running as far as the eye can see, with no visible evidence of human development, is the real tropical wilderness vista many visitors want to experience. The various tropical flora, fauna, varieties of Palawan Orchid species and Palawan Cherry Blossoms are worth coming to see by themselves without even a thought to the myriad other species on display. Follow the journey of streams and rivers as they wind through the mountains, nurturing vigorous stands of mangrove in the lowlands before flowing out to the sea. There the crystal clear water abounds with multi-hued fish and corals.
The Underground River is the biggest attraction in the province but there is a lot more to see and do in Palawan. If you just book a couple of nights on Palawan you are going to feel disappointed at not having time to explore all the other attractions the Island has to offer.
